Welcome to AWJ Chicago

Join us July 20 for AWJ's 2017 Annual Membership Picnic

Registration is open! AWJ-Chicago's 2017 Annual Picnic  will be held at the Keith House on Chicago’s Historic Prairie Avenue.

You may recall that we celebrated AWJ-Chicago's 20th anniversary at this great venue in 2013. We're excited to return to this beautiful space again this year!

This space - The Keith House - is courtesy of Marcy Baim, proprietor, and her sister, Tracy Baim, AWJ member, author, editor and publisher at Windy City Media Group, who invited us to their historic Chicago mansion to honor their late mother, Joy Darrow, a noted photojournalist and early feminist.

Some on site parking  is available. To view or download a map of parking  lot access at Keith House, click here.

*** We're happy to bring back our Summer Picnic Membership Special! ***

You can renew or join AWJ at the picnic and get this special deal: For $75, your membership won't expire until January 2019!

Want to take advantage of this special offer? Email Amy at theamyguth@gmail.com. Then show up at the picnic with a check or cash for the membership fee.

Programming — oversees AWJ events like the annual meeting, summer picnic, panel discussions and trainings for established journalists. Scholarships — administers AWJ scholarship offerings, networks with college journalism professors and departments in the Chicago area. Scholarship committee members serve as judges for the scholarship competition. It's a chance to review the work of young journalists and help them take the next steps in their careers. Contact Anne Johnsos annejohnsos@gmail.com

Website/Communications — updates AWJ’s website and manages social media and communications about events and programs. Looking for members who can post regularly on our social media outlets and listserv about news and events of interest to our members. Committee members write and post wrap-up articles of our events and special articles (such as our AWJ Member Spotlight feature) to put on our website. Contact Felicia Oliver felicia.oliver@gmail.com

Cindy Bandle Young Critics — a program run in association with the Goodman Theatre in which AWJ members coach high school girls in writing theater criticism. We are looking for volunteer mentors for next season starting in the fall. Time commitment is eight to 12 hours a month from late September through late May.  Contact Carla K. Johnson earthsutra@me.com

We hope you will consider joining one of these lovely committees to get more involved in the Chicago Journalism Community.

Now more than ever, journalism matters and we hope you’ll continue to support AWJ with your membership, your presence and talents, and with your social media networks.
